Our special Collector's Edition contains 6 different Keyrings, designed to illustrate the lives of Cornwall's Grey Seals.
Keyrings cost £1 each or £5 for the set of 6. Postage and packing costs around £1 in the UK*.

Bouncer.

Seals are very muscley and can move surprisingly quickly! Even a young pup can outrun a human across an uneven beach. This beautiful young female seal was clearly in a bit of a rush and she appeared to bounce as she bounded up the beach to meet her friends.

Kissy Kissy.

Adult seals say hello with 'sniffy' greetings. These two adults (a male and female) are touching whiskers and seem to know each other when they meet on the haulout beach.

Mowgli.

Mowgli was his Mum's first pup and she didn't seem to know what to do when a white furry bundle appeared on the beach next to her. Cornwall Seal Group volunteers watched over Mowgli for 2 days to keep a look out for Mum, before finally calling out a rescue team from British Divers Marine Life Rescue and The National Seal Sanctuary. Mowgli's rescue was shown on BBC2's Springwatch.

Playmates.

These young seals are enjoying a play on the beach. The young grey and white, spotty female is called 'Pups 3' - she has a big black number 3 on her back. Her male friend is 'flippering' her - tapping her with his fore flipper, to get her attention.

Sunbathers.

Grey seals like nothing better than to haul out and sleep on sun-kissed rocks. Grey seals vary in colour from white to black and cream to chocolate with all colours in between. These 2 sunbathers are a darker and larger male and a smaller, brownie female. Somehow they even manage to look comfortable on their bed of boulders.

Mum and Pup.

This Mum (called 'Arms and legs') had her pup in early December. Cornwall Seal Group member, Terry, first spotted the pup when it was 2 days old. At first we were a little concerned at the pup's uncomfortable efforts to feed and we watched plenty of false starts. We shouldn't have doubted Mum and we watched her successfully rear and wean her pup, who finally left to explore it's wild world on New Year's Eve.

There are 3 Cornish Seals Postcards. Postcards cost 30p each or £1 for 4. Postage and packing costs around 34p in the UK*.

The Haulout

Grey Seals routinely spend a lot of time hauled out of the water. They leave the sea to breed, moult their fur coats, to rest and to digest their food. Despite appearing to look cumbersome on land, they can move surprisingly quickly if disturbed. If you are watching seals on land, aim to arrive, watch and leave unseen by the seals. If seals have to rush towards the sea too quickly, they get careless and can rip their bellies and get claws caught between rocks. We have an international responsibility to protect the Grey Seals along our coasts.

Millie and Pup

A model Mum, Cornwall Seal Group members watched her successfully raise her pup throughout October. Millie was a very proud Mum, who showed a lot of affection, care and attention towards her pup, so it must have been a real wrench for her and her pup, when they finally went their separate ways. Mum left her pup strong and healthy with good fat reserves to see it through the worst of the Winter storms.

Playing in the Surf

These 2 young males are having great fun playing the shallows. They roll over and over enjoying the white water crashing over rocks. Seals have long, sensitive whiskers that are used to detect their prey underwater and large interlocking teeth. Even so, seals are remarkably gentle and inquisitive creatures, who have inspired many legends. The seal at the top of the picture is Chairlift, the first seal to be identified over 100 times.
