Net entanglement of Grey Seals
Seal observers have become increasingly concerned about the number of seals they have observed with net attached to various parts of their anatomy. Seals have also been seen with fish hooks attached to their mouths and ears.
2 of the 3 seals rescued from the local haul out beach have been entangled in discarded net and have had multiple points of net attachment. This young male seal had monofilament net attached tight around his neck and an 'apron' of coarse netting attached around his middle. When this seal was rescued the 'apron' had twisted around the seal's body and had become more like a rucsack.

If you see a seal or pup injured in any way, call the National Seal Sanctuary at Gweek on 01326 221361 or the RSPCA . They will send qualified and trained observers to assess the condition of the animal and take the most appropriate action, in the best interests of the seal.
